stay classy las vegas

Team GoldieRox...boom boom pow!

the primary purpose of my Vegas trip was to complete the Rock ‘n’ Roll 1/2 Marathon. (well…maybe it was the “excuse” to go to Vegas and the secondary purpose if i’m really being honest) as previously posted – this goal was met!!! here are my other goals – all mostly achieved!

STAY in a swanky hotel: HELLO COSMOPOLITAN! nowhere is more swanky!!!

view from the Cosmopolitan...outstanding!

EAT at some awesome places that wouldn’t make me broke: LOVE YOU The Barrymore, Comme Ca & Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill

view of the strip from Comme Ca...fabulous!

DRINK some delicious cocktails that wouldn’t make me broke: lola loves HAND CRAFTED COCKTAILS with perfect chunky ice cubes! (i’ll admit i AM a little broke from this…see my NYC cocktail tour for insight) 🙂

dark & stormy with homemade ginger beer a la Comme Ca...yummy!

PLAY at some fun bars and clubs without waiting in line: TOTALLY DIG that promoters read tweets & reach out to get you on the list!

VIP entry + free drinks at Tryst...cuz that's how i roll! (thanks Dave)

SHOP to get some great must-have item(s): no SERIOUS damage here but still some fun finds

adorable Cosmopolitan t-shirt (check)

fun gold scarf to add some sparkle to any outfit (check)

seriously heavy metal that can't be bought but only earned = BEST BLING OF ALL!!

mission vegas accomplished

Team GoldieRox crossing the finish line at the Rock ‘n’ Roll Strip at Night 1/2 Marathon.

 Despite a few obstacles:

  1. 3 hour time difference
  2. 2 days of cocktails leading up to the race
  3. 4am bedtime 2 nights in a row
  4. 40 degree weather
  5. 13.1 miles ran in the dark around 44,000 people crowding the strip

We did it, ladies and WE ROCKED IT!

girls NYC cocktail tour = priceless

there are some things money can’t buy – GOOD laughs with GIRLFRIENDS.

for everything else – a GIRLFRIEND trip to NYC and many GOOD cocktails – there’s a thing called a credit card!

let me break it down.

JetBlue plane ticket to JFK = $72

yellow cab to Manhattan = $55

walking the East & West sides of Central Park = $lovely yet expensive on the eyes

shopping damage = $42

pre-dinner drinks at 6 Columbus & Perry St. = $75

taxi to/from West Village & Soho = $25

dinner at Perry St. = $45

post-dinner drinks at Crosby St. = $85

roundtrip subway ride to/from Soho = $4.50

walking in circles in Soho & Midtown = $annoying result of foggy hangover

brunch at The Cupping Room = $30

shopping damage = $120

taxi to/from Meat Packing district = $16

pre-dinner drinks at  Buddakhan & Scarpetta = $55

dinner at Scarpetta = $32

post-dinner drinks at Scarpetta = $FREE (thank you!)

hotel = $133

parking = $28

ride home = $0 (courtesy of my pal)

GRAND TOTALS:

  1. transportation & parking=$200.50
  2. hotel = $133
  3. shopping = $162
  4. food = $107
  5. drinks = $215

fun with girlfriends = PRICELESS

PS – if you are reading this far down then you’ll know i’ve proven my point from previous posts that 1) i think dinners are not so expensive in NYC yet cocktails are very expensive! 2) obviously, the subway IS the way to get around 3) i like to score free drinks without scoring and in NYC this was a success – huge savings!! CHEERS!

post-race – Quechee, VT

[twitter-follow screen_name= ‘loladimarco’]

“All journeys have secret destinations of which the traveler is unaware.” ~Martin Buber (my secret destination this journey was self-pride!)

cheers to us!!!

i enjoyed our free celebratory beer amongst the other racers & then it was off to get ready for a nice post-race rub down at the strong house spa in Quechee. i was treated with a deep tissue massage and i’m not sure whether it was post-run delirium or if the massage was really that good but i’m telling you it felt great – one of my best of all time. after that, all the girls showered up and got ready for a night of dinner & drinks to really toast our efforts.

celebration dinner + drinks

we had a lovely dinner at simon pearce in Quechee. the storefront at the historic mill has a beautiful restaurant inside that touts food prepared with local ingredients from community farms. if you haven’t been to the store or restaurant make a point to get there some day. WONDERFUL in every way!

our delicious dinner was followed by drinks at parker house inn – a small B&B with a fantastic bar. we all enjoyed meeting the owner – Adam – see you next year for the post-CBHM cocktails!! *side note – i was beyond thrilled that both simon pearce & parker house had my favorite drink – goslings rum! thank you so much for helping me really celebrate.

after having an incredible weekend with my friends & feeling the rush of accomplishment from completing my first half marathon now the question is where do we plan our next active adventure girlfriend getaway?

who’s up for the rock’n’roll half marathon in las vegas? for some inspiration i found world’s top 10 most incredible girlfriend getaways via got saga. many of the featured locations have events for the active & adventuresome. there are 1/2 marathons in miami, nyc & napa and if running isn’t your thing perhaps you can find a relay team sport such as a sprint triathlon to do with your posse of gal pals – aruba has one! for those with longer & more difficult (ie: full marathon) aspirations – read this article by lonely planet.

as you can see, the race is really just the catalyst & only a small part of the weekend that will become our next getaway. get to dreaming girlfriends and let me know where we are headed next!
