Deep in the Heart of Texas – Salt Lick BBQ

lauren’s spicy sauce, indeed!

located just 25 south of Austin, Texas is a town called Driftwood. i think the only reason people reside there or travel through is to get their hands on the BEST BBQ EVER!!! (and this is reason enough) as i said in my earlier Austin, Texas post – DO NOT CHEAT YOURSELF out of having an amazing culinary experience at SALT LICK BBQ! and that’s not even all they have to offer. here’s what else:

a scenic property

isn’t it lovely?!

meat meat meat

can almost taste the mesquite just looking at this

personalized sauce

just kidding – they ONLY did it for ME (haha)

beer by the bucket

none other than TX shiner beer

wine tasting while you wait

$5 for five samples – pretty tasty deal, no?!

fun & clever t-shirts

can you guess which one i like best?

satisfied customers

everything is BIG & the BBQ is the best in TEXAS

ps-photo credit…salt lick for the property pic, kirk coleman for the bbq & beer pics, leah for the big bus & raul for the rockin pic of me with my spicy sauce – nice shots!!

Austin, Texas

you can take the girl outta Texas but you can’t take the Texas outta the girl!

yeehaw! deep in the heart of TEXAS

what a great trip i had!  i have many more fun posts planned to cover my adventures but wanted to quickly recap my fab weekend in Austin, Texas. look back to Texas or Bust if you need to recall my plans…

i stayed in the beautiful Four Seasons Austin and was greeted with lovely southern hospitality and treated like a princess! i miss your cozy fireplace and beautiful rose bushes…lola’s favorite color – hot pink!

feelin' at home at the Four Seasons! love this awesome cow print couch!

i may have over-indulged in the tex-mex having it for dinner on friday at Gueros Taco Bar and then for breakfast saturday morning at Izzoz Tacos trailer! nahhh…who am i kidding, you can NEVER over-indulge with mexican!!

yummy breakfast tacos at Izzoz!

boy oh boy was the trip to Salt Lick BBQ worth the drive out to Driftwood, TX. do not, i repeat, DO NOT cheat yourself out of this experience if you are in the Austin area.  best beef brisket bbq sandwich EVER – hands down!

Salt Lick BBQ...yuuummmyyy!

live music was one area that i didn’t over-indulge in sadly. too much to do and not enough time. i did manage to swing by the Continental Club for some fun rockabilly and a few cheap beers!

the Continental Club

finally, lola got herself a new PAIR(S) of boots.  this…was definitely over-indulgence but i just HAD to!

lola's 1st pair of boots

lola's 2nd pair of boots!

gracias, TEXAS for being such a wonderful host.  i love you dearly. you’ll always be home to me and you’ll always have my heart!

Texas or Bust

coming home – the lone star state

lola's getting geared up to go home

i think it’s quite fitting that my first trip of the new year is to my HOME state – TEXAS!  while i do plan to swing through big D to see family, the primary purpose of my trip is to meet up with some travel blogger twitter friends in Austin.  we only  know each other virtually but soon will meet in real life.  i’m *super excited* and know it’s going to be the first of many meet up/tweet ups!!!

on the itinerary:

  • stay at the fab Four Seasons Austin – can’t wait to check out your swanky pad & be more “social” with you!
  • some fantastico tex-mex –  of course!
  • couldn’t leave Austin without trying Salt Lick BBQ – touted to be the BEST!
  • going to see some authentic Austin music in some classic Austin venues like the Broken Spoke!
  • and getting lola a new pair of sh#t kickers otherwise known as cowboy boots!

little lola has on her boots and is packed & ready to go! TEXAS or BUST!!

i may end up calling this trip F to the Fourth – Four Seasons, Food, Fun & Friendship!

see you soon, home sweet home!

XO – lola

PS – if you’d like to follow our adventures – we’ll be tweeting under the hashtag #TexasTweetUp all weekend!
